I admit it seems like a click bait title but, if you are a regular reader of this Blog or if you are a follower of the FIRE ‘movement’ then it comes as no surprise.
FIRE — stands for Financial Independence, Retire Early. I have written extensively about what FIRE is and what it is not. FIRE is all about the pursuit of happiness after being unburdened from the obligation to earn for the sake of paying the bills.
Jeff Bezos is going to step down as Amazon’s CEO on July 5, 2021 and Andy Jassy is slated to take…
Spoiler Alert: This article contains my thoughts on the book which gives out spoilers. I loved the book and highly recommend reading it. (non-affiliated link)
The Novel is set in the future and has a lot of scientific elements. The core scientific concept that is explored in depth is that of Artificial Intelligence.
Klara is an AF — An Artificial Friend one could say. In the first part of the book, she is at an AF store. She, along with her other AF friends take turns to sit on the couch in the display window of the store. …
Disclaimer — the most important disclaimer is the fact that I am not Enlightenment by any definition and neither am I anywhere along the path striving for it. If anything I might be moving away from Enlightenment in the pursuit of Financial Independence. I hope to practice and consciously investigate these concepts after ensuring Financial security for me and my dependents.
Next, all the ideas presented here are not my own, these are based on the books I have read and podcasts I have listened to over the course of several years, references are at the end of the article…
Diderot Effect takes its name from Denis Diderot an 18th Century French Philosopher. To be more specific, the idea originates from the essay titled ‘Regrets on parting with my Old Dressing Gown’.
In his essay Diderot talks about how an unexpected gift of an expensive dressing gown caused him financial ruin. The sequence of events is amusing. Long story short, he upgrades his writing desk, arm-chair and several other items to match his new luxurious gown. He ends up rearranging his entire life due to that one trigger of having an expensive gown.
The Diderot effect occurs when one acquires…

Although I mostly write about Finance on this website, I feel this is one ‘apparent’ exception, where I write about Human Behavioral Psychology. I call this exception ‘apparent’ because I believe every long-term personal project depends a lot on your Mental fortitude as much as other external factors. Understanding yourself can be a powerful weapon in your arsenal to achieve Jaya (Sanskrit for Victory)
Spoiler Alert! — The rest of this article has spoilers. I would highly recommend watching the movie before reading on.

There’s no sensation compared to this…..
Unlike most people perhaps, I can very distinctly remember my first time. I was Twenty-two years old. Not too young, not too old. I was nervous but also tremendously excited. I had heard about how it actually feels like from friends who had done it before but nothing ever comes close to having the actual experience.
I am talking about flying. More specifically Air-travel. Something, given the current situation seems like a thing of the past.
It may seem odd but I was twenty-two years old when I first boarded an airplane…
I am 40 years old and have two young kids both under five years of age. I travelled and did a lot of soul searching in my 20s , trying to find the right career blah blah.
Other than 200,000$s in my home equity I have no significant savings. What should I do?
This was a question posted on one of the popular personal finance forums. This situation, while unique to the person, is not uncommon.
After posting my opinion on this question I continued to think about it further.
I saw that there is a sense of regret in…
This is a sketch of the character called Wataru Menshiki who appears in the Haruki Murakami’s Novel Killing Commendatore.
I highly recommend reading the Novel, it is surely one of my all time favourites and I have read and continue to re-read it multiple times.
A note on time — As the novel is a snapshot in time, all references to the present in this article relate to the now in the novel. The novel came out in 2017, so the now could be taken as the year 2017.
Wataru — to cross a river
Menshiki — Avoiding Colours
The recent few weeks have been devastating for investors all over the world. Even the Major indices like the Dow and S&P 500 have lost well over 10% from their peaks. Individual stocks, especially in tourism and transport have almost halved in price. It seems like we are close to Armageddon. There is panic in the air literally! It is all being driven by the fears over the Corona Virus a.k.a Covid-19 contagion.
The title of this article comes from the guide book mentioned in the book (Yes, this is meta) — The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.
